The Way We Eat
With each passing year, more and more of
us struggle to control our weight. And with each passing
year, more and more of us lose that struggle, gaining weight
despite our best efforts. Obesity in America is epidemic
among women, men, and children alike. Why is this? Why is
“thin” both so appealing, and so elusive? This
talk will explain why we tend to gain weight, and what factors
in the modern world are responsible for recent trends. The
case will be made that we are up against a perfect storm
of “obesigenic” influences, factors that favor
weight gain, and make weight loss increasingly difficult.
This will be discussed as a crisis that represents both
danger, and opportunity. The health effects of obesity make
it a very real crisis, for our children especially. But
opportunity abounds to turn the situation around. Strategies
for both personal and community action will be described.
Weight control is challenging, even exasperating. But that’s
because you have been trying to solve a problem you didn’t
fully understand. Knowledge is power. Skills and strategies
are ability. With the right resources, is there a way for
us to shield ourselves and our families from the obesigenic
storm? Is there a rational path to follow toward the unfattening
of America? As you will hear, the answer is: O, Yes!
